LIXIL makes pioneering water and housing products that solve everyday, real-life challenges, making better homes a reality for everyone, everywhere.
At LIXIL, we design water and sanitation products that matter to people, including the SATO toilets and the SATO Tap—affordable, innovative solutions tailored for consumers in some of the poorest and most remote parts of the world. UNICEF works with partners in over 100 countries to generate demand for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services, leveraging decades of expertise and a proven market-based approach.
Together LIXIL and UNICEF are building sustainable sanitation economies in Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania, empowering communities to invest in safe, clean toilets and handwashing facilities. By making quality products available, easy to install, and supported by waste management systems, and by involving local entrepreneurs, governments, and financing institutions, we promote health, prosperity, and climate resilience. We call on others to join us in scaling these transformative solutions.
We believe we can make a significant contribution to delivering on the globally agreed Sustainable Development Goal Target 6.2: to achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all, and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations.
This partnership aims to demonstrate that there are markets with business opportunities for private players to enter. In partnership with UNICEF, Governments, NGOs and communities, we can support the development of sustainable sanitation economies that benefit everyone. Access to sanitation and hygiene is essential to broader development goals, including health, education, gender equality, and climate resilience. By creating demand for products like toilets, improving supply, and supporting affordable finance, LIXIL and UNICEF are expanding this market to give every children a healthy start to life and to strengthen communities for generations to come.
The partnership started in Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania, and is now active in India, Indonesia and Nigeria to provide children, their families and communities with affordable and appropriately designed toilets and hand-washing stations like LIXIL’s SATO.
